Coffey, Donald Ray DONALD RAY COFFEY, 78, of Port Bolivar, TX, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 at UTMB in Galveston, TX. A memorial service will be held at Bay Vue Methodist Church in Crystal Beach, TX at 2 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012. Don was born July 1, 1934 in Alcoa, TN. He graduated from Alcoa High School, then served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. Later attended Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, where he met his bride of 54 years, Janis Iden (Thomson) Coffey. Served as president of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration, with honors. Don was a top salesman for Alcoa, a stockbroker for A.G. Edwards, partner at Schneider, Bernet & Hickman, and later owned and operated Three Rivers Gypsum, Texas Drywall, Boating Corporation of America, and Paneltherm. He served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Irving, TX, was a founding member of Irving Country Club, and a longtime member of Las Colinas Country Club. He won golf championships at both clubs. Don was preceded in death on September 2, 2012 by his wife Janis. He is survived by a sister, Suzanne Turner; daughters Kyle Blair (son-in law Kris Blair), Carol Matthews (son-in-law Bret Matthews), and Katherine Irwin (son-in-law Stephen Irwin); and six grandchildren: Elisabeth, Jack, and Gabriella Irwin; and Sean, Max, and Luke Matthews.
