Valentine, Elva Hudson After a long, fulfilling and independent life, Elva peacefully passed away on July 14, 2014 at the age of 95. She was born on July 20, 1918 in Clarksville, Tennessee. She was proud of her support of World War II by working at Camp (now Fort) Campbell near Clarksville. After the war, she attended and received two degrees from SMU in 1947 and then taught school in Dallas, Texas. In 1951, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota earning a Master's Degree in Art Education. She then taught school in St. Paul, Minnesota. Elva met Constantine James Valentine at the University of Minnesota. They married June 6, 1956. Constantine preceded her in death in December of 1996. Elva and Constantine raised their family of son Phillip Hunter Valentine and daughter Constance Elva Valentine. Phillip married his wife Tamara in May of 2000. The family moved from Minnesota to McAllen, Texas in 1975 to live in warmth during the winters. Elva was part of McDonald's morning group of close friends for many years. She moved to Dallas, Texas in May of 2007 and lived independently at Treemont Retirement Community. Family will receive friends on the evening of Friday, July 18, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 12:30 PM at the Wildwood Chapel located at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
