Smith, Ethan L. Ethan L. Smith of Garland passed away December 2, 2013. Born 2/7/26 in Temple, Oklahoma to the late William and Fannie Smith. Raised in Walters, Oklahoma he was the last of 9 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Weatherford Junior College. Preceded in death also by 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was one of 4 brothers who fought in WWII and thankfully all returned alive. He was a wounded in action in Okinawa, Japan and earned a purple heart. He also earned a bronze star, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and expert Rifleman's medal. After 38 years of service, he retired from the US Post Office as a director of mail processing. He enjoyed adventures with his wife and was an avid poker player. Ethan was survived by Melba, his wife of 45 years, and 4 children: Mar-Lynne Lang (Mike); Micaela Nixon (LaDon); G'Nell Price (Brandon); Dwayne Smith. He is also survived by 5 granddaughters, 1 on the way, 2 grandsons, 5 great-grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter. He was a devout Catholic and an active member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Richardson, belonged to the Knights of Columbus and Circle of Friends. He enjoyed attending daily mass and the Wednesday morning coffee brunch at the Forum. He was a member of the Garland Senior Activity Center and the Post Office Retiree Union. The family would like to thank the staff at Winters Park Nursing Home and Visiting Nurses Association for their care and support that went above and beyond. Visitation at 6:30pm followed by a Rosary at 7pm on Thursday, December 5. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 6 at 1:30pm with a reception to follow. Both services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Richardson.
