Cape Jr., George William 1935-2013 George William Cape Jr., was born June 4, 1935, in Galveston Texas to George Sr. & Maurine. After graduating in 1958 from the University of Texas School of Architecture, marriage to Babs Bartow, and a 2-year "honeymoon" in Taiwan (on US Navy duty), he began his career in architecture in Dallas with Thomas, Jameson & Merrill, before beginning his own partnership, Woodward & Cape, earning several awards. This evolved into EDI, SDI and eventually part of PGAL. During George's 35 years in Dallas he served on the Board of the Dallas Athletic Club, officer in the Dallas AIA and as an elder & teacher at Lake Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas (now Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church). Retiring in 1996, he and Babs relocated in Sun City Texas in Georgetown. George was well known for his original hand-drawn Christmas cards that touched hundreds of lives each holiday season. George passed away unexpectedly but quietly on February 1, 2013. He will be remembered for his kindness and gentleness and as a devoted husband, father, brother, & grandfather. George is survived by his wife Babs Bartow Cape, sister Judy Kay Cowan, sons Chris & Scott, grandsons Stephen, Harrison & Eric, granddaughters Rachel, Francesca, Christina, Courtney, Kelley, & Nani, and great-granddaughter Hallie. George was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Weaver and his parents. He will be greatly missed, but he left so many beautiful memories-visual and spiritual. A Memorial Service will be held at Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 9. Contributions in his honor can be made to First Presbyterian Church Georgetown, 703 Church St., Georgetown, TX 78628. You may share messages or memories in the memorial guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com.
