Obituary Condolences

Ligon, Gloria F. Age 85, was received into the hands of God, Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Arlington. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 1pm with services following at 3pm at First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. Private Interment will be held at a later time at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Those choosing may make contributions to the of Fort Worth or the Avalon Memory Care of Arlington. Gloria was born October 2, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Wayne and Mary Frederick. She spent most of her childhood in the south Texas town of Goliad. She has resided in the Dallas Fort Worth area since 1944 and retired from the Dallas Independent School District dedicating 30 years working as a teacher. As a resident of Dallas, Gloria was an active member of the Glen Oaks United Methodist Church and later attended the Faith Bible Church. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at Southern Methodist University and completed her studies at the University of North Texas where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Education. She continued her studies earning her Master's from the University of Texas in Arlington. Gloria currently resided in Mansfield and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ligon; brother, Jim Wayne Frederick and grandson, David M. Haydin, Jr. Survivors: children, John Ligon, Jr. and wife Susan of Mesquite, Melinda Barry and husband Ed of Mansfield, and Kevin Ligon of New York, NY; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
