Deering, Helen Decker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend to many, went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2014. Helen was born on February 23, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas to Mary Neely and Westbrook Brodhead Decker. Helen grew up in Arlington with her two brothers and two sisters and graduated from Arlington High School and NTAC (now University of Texas at Arlington). She married her sweetheart, Robert E. Deering, on August 8, 1944, during WWII. Helen and her husband, Bob, founded Red Steel Company in 1972, where she served on the board until her death. She was a charter member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church. Helen was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Alumnae and has served on the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation Board. Helen was the matriarch of her family, which she raised with high expectations, incredible generosity, and more love than any family deserves. She orchestrated many amazing memories at their lake house, summers at Rainbow Lake, Colorado, and the Alaskan cruise celebrating their 50th anniversary. Her faith was strong and unwavering as was her love for family and friends. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Bob, for 57 years until his passing in 2001. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Jacque and Van Roll, Gigi and Guy Haltom, and Debbie and Lee Owen; grandchildren, Michelle Haltom Shetler and husband Todd, Heather Haltom Talbert and husband Chris, Amy Roll Loukas and husband Jeff, Robert Roll and wife Jill, Jennifer Owen Reid and husband James, Julie Owen Meyer and husband David, Matt Owen and fiancée Marissa Keith; great-grandchildren, Greer and Blake Shetler, Billy and Gigi Talbert, Brooks and Will Loukas; sister, Janie Wallace; as well as BeBe and the other loving and devoted staff of Caruth Haven Court. A memorial service to celebrate Helen's homecoming with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, will be on Friday, January 24 at 3:00 at Park Cities Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph (Skip) Ryan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn, Dallas, Texas 75219.
