Holmes, Helen Elise Schilling Born in Greensburg, LA on September 14, 1924 to Edwin C. Schilling and Myrtle Holland Schilling, passed away Dec. 8, 2012 in Plano, Texas. After graduating from Amite High School, she attended Louisiana State University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Helen then attended Baton Rouge Business College following which she worked for the Louisiana State Welfare Department and for the Eighth Service Command Department of Military Intelligence during World War II. On July 1, 1944, she married the love of her life, George H. Holmes, to whom she was married for almost 55 years. Helen lived a life of service to others at her church, First Baptist of Dallas, as well as her community. It was at church that she met her beloved Bethany friends, meeting with them for over 60 years. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband. She is survived by her children Dick and Jenny Holmes, and Joe and Barbara Hodges. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jennifer and David Whitson, Jake and Josh; Brooke and Wes Drescher, Will and Anna. Additionally, she is survived by her step-grandchildren, Chip and Jennifer Hodges and family; Jacob and Emily Anderson and family, and Clint Hodges. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Prestonwood Court who lovingly cared for Helen. Service will be held Thursday, Dec.13, 2012 at 11am at Restland Memorial Chapel.
