Tyler, Herbert Kent 1960 - 2013 Herbert Kent Tyler, surrounded by his loving family, went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday October 20, 2013. Kent was born October 11, 1960 to Herbert & Billie Tyler in Temple, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Lisa (Neu) Tyler, son Corry Tyler & wife Katie, daughter Kaylee Gregson & husband Ben, grandchildren Cayden, Sydney Gregson and McKennon Tyler, parents Herbert & Billie Tyler, sister Kim Gerdes, niece Claire Gerdes, nephew Clint Gerdes, in-laws Wayne & Bertie Neu and a very large extended family. Kent grew up in Dallas & graduated from Dallas Christian in 1978 & attended Abilene Christian University. In 1985, Kent became a Mesquite Police officer & was dedicated to the citizens of Mesquite for 28 years. He spent most of his career in patrol & was promoted to Sergeant in 1996. His influence was strongly felt by other officers in the department because of the example he set, fulfilling his belief that a leader should lead by example. A man of great faith, Kent was a member of Highland Oaks Church of Christ where for many years he worked with the youth & served on the Security Team especially in the Children's Ministry. Kent will be greatly missed by family, friends & co-workers. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday October 26 at 10:00 A.M. at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ 10805 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas Tx. A Celebration of Kent's life will follow in the Family Center at Highland Oaks where the family will receive friends. Kent requested that in lieu of flowers, a fund be established to help people experiencing medical hardships. This fund is established through the Highland Oaks Church of Christ as the Kent Tyler Memorial Fund.
