Roberts, James Liston James Liston Roberts of Dallas, TX died surrounded by his family at the T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas on March 2, 2013. He was 69 years old. The cause was cancer. Born in Fort Worth in 1943 and raised in Houston, he was the son of James Clement Roberts and Margaret Lavin Liston Roberts. He graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston in 1961. In 1965 he earned an AB from Vanderbilt University where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1968. From 1965-1966 he served as an investment analyst at Underwood, Neuhaus and Co. in Houston. Following Harvard Business School, he and his wife Estha Chism moved to Dallas where he worked in institutional equity sales at Goldman Sachs and Co. (1968-1972) then at Bear Stearns (1972-1990.) He went on to become the Director of Institutional Equity Sales at the Principal/Epler, Guerin, and Turner (1992-1996) and later organized the institutional sales team at The Stanford Group Company where he remained until 2009. He was an avid pilot who received his license at age 16. He loved golf and skeet shooting. A member of the Northwood Club since 1975, he was a founding member of Secession Golf Club in Beaufort, South Carolina. He also served as president of the Dallas Gun Club. He was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Steeplechase Club in Ft. Worth and the Calyx and Terpsichorean Clubs in Dallas. For many years he was an associate of the Dallas Museum of Art. He is preceded in death by his parents James Clement Roberts and Margaret Lavin Liston Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Estha Chism Roberts; his daughter Margaret Liston Roberts; his sister Kay Roberts Hawthorn and his brother-in-law Hubert Franklin Hawthorn of Houston; his nephew Andrew Brian Hawthorn of Houston; his nephew James Franklin Hawthorn and his wife Catherine Butler Hawthorn of New York City; and grandnephew James Franklin Hawthorn, Jr. and grandniece Lillie Rubye Hawthorn of New York City. The family would like to thank the entire 5th floor team at Pickens Cancer Hospital for the phenomenal care they provided. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday with vigil service at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, followed by a graveside service at Sparkman/Hillcrest and a reception.
