Juanita Frances Marshall Obituary
Marshall, Juanita Frances (formerly Rucker) 1925 - 2014 Juanita Marshall went home to God on March 9, 2014. Born in Abilene, Texas as the fifth of nine children to dairy farmer Joseph Herman Rucker and his wife Mary, she graduated from Abilene High School and McMurry College. Her family was proud of the fact that all nine Rucker children graduated from McMurry College; their father paid their tuition by providing milk to the school. After graduation Juanita moved to Colorado City, Texas, where she taught high school math for four years. She met her future husband, geologist Joseph William Marshall, there. They married in Abilene on August 5, 1950. Their first son, Thomas William (Tom) Marshall, was born in Ranger, Texas, on October 9, 1952. Their second son, Harold Franklin (Hal) Marshall, was born on May 31, 1955, in Roswell, New Mexico. The Marshalls moved to Midland, Texas, in April 1960. Juanita lived there for the next 47 years. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and member of the choir. She taught junior high school and high school math for another 13 years. She was a proud member of the Midland and Texas Retired Teachers Associations. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons, who went on to achieve the ranks of Life and Eagle, respectively. Her son Hal currently serves as the Scoutmaster of Troop 709 in Dallas. Juanita moved to Dallas, Texas in 2007 to be near her children and grandchildren. She lived at C.C. Young Retirement Center and joined Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Amlin Class. She enjoyed being with her family and making new friends. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her brother Joe Herman Rucker, and her sisters Alice Allen and Ruth Hickok. Her sisters Lucille Chessmore of Fort Worth and Melba Boozer of Abilene, her brothers Morris Rucker of Houston, Harold Rucker of Richardson, and Lloyd Rucker of Prosper survive her. She is also survived by her sons Tom and Hal, Hal's wife Mary, and grandchildren Ryan, Sarah, Joe, Scott and Colton, as well as great - grandson Cyron. A Memorial Service will be held at Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 11:00 in the morning. The church is located at 6445 East Lovers Lane in Dallas, Texas. Juanita will be buried next to her husband of 46 years at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon, March 15, at Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ridgewood Park UMC's fund for building a new Scout Hut. Donations may be sent to the church at 6445 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas, TX 75214.
