Matthew Roberts Obituary
Roberts, Matthew Thomas Matthew Thomas Roberts left this world on February 11, 2013. Loyal, loving, patient, kind, always smiling, and always in an Aggie cap, Matt was devoted to his family and his football. He may have been happiest in the mountains of Colorado, hiking, skiing the double-blacks, and spending time with family. Watching Johnny Football win the Heisman was a close second. With Matt, you couldn't help but catch his infectious enthusiasm and fun. Matt brought music into all our lives: the jams of Phish, the wail of bagpipes, and the Aggie War Hymn. He honored his family's Scottish heritage by piping, with enthusiasm and in full dress kilt, at family events. He loved animals, from Hammy the Hamster to his dreamed-of mini horse Rusty, and his beloved pets Pene and Piper. If you ever saw him run with his hips, play ping-pong from an elliptical machine, or do "The Matt Dance," you know he was not afraid to be silly. He hated karaoke, and he was hopeless at drawing. All of which made Matt uniquely endearing. Born in Dallas April 24, 1982, Matt grew up in Lake Highlands and Highland Park, beginning a life-long relationship with music when he picked up the clarinet. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 2000, as Pipe Major, Drum Major, and all-around band guy. With hair dyed maroon (that quickly faded to pink), he went on to Texas A&M University and graduated in 2004 from the Professional Program in Accounting, with a Masters in Finance. He built a career at KPMG, where he was a Senior Tax Manager and veteran of 9 Busy Seasons. Matt proposed to his high school sweetheart, Cameron Hall, under the Century Tree at Texas A&M, and married her in June 2005. This year, they had been together for half of their lives. Matt is preceded in death by grandparents Marcia Stimson and Wallace Roberts, and survived by wife Cameron Hall; parents John and Susie Roberts; sister Emily Rhodes, her husband Rick and their son Liam; brother Luke Roberts; grandparents Phyllis Roberts and Tom and Sandra Stimson; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 15, 11:30 am, at Trinity Fellowship Church, 932 S Greenville Ave, Richardson. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Matt Roberts Memorial Band Scholarship through the Highland Park Education Foundation (www.hpef.org, 4201 Grassmere Lane, Dallas, TX 75205); or to the Resource Area for Teaching - Texas (http://preview.rafttexas.org; contact Leslie Hall, leslie@rafttexas.org).
