Norman Helgeson, died March 20, 2014. Raised in River Falls, WI, Norm graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree. He served in the US Navy in Korea. He then received M.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. Norm interned at the Detroit Receiving Hospital and completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He and his family moved to Dallas in 1966 where he joined the Pathology Department at Baylor University Medical Center. For 45 years Dr. Helgeson specialized in anatomical and clinical pathology and microbiology. He had a love of teaching, reading, and all things academic. Norm was preceded in death by his wife, Mary H. Helgeson. He is survived by his daughter, Sara Patterson and husband, Michael of San Antonio; son, Matthew Helgeson of Dallas; grandsons, Matthew and William Patterson of San Antonio; six nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Rd., Dallas. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood, Dallas. Very Rev. John Libone will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 3900 Rowlett Rd., Rowlett. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
