McNiel, Norman Norman McNiel, born October 1, 1930, to Lucille and Liston McNiel, died June 13, 2012, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Dallas native graduated from Sunset High School (1948) and received his Bachelor of Science and Master of LIberal Arts degrees from SMU. He spent his 41-year career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Dallas, Texas. Norman was a single-digit handicap golfer, and his love of golf lead to his move to Hot Springs Village after retirement. Norman is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Kathleen Johnson. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Janis; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and George Candler of Dallas, Norma Burks of Fort Worth, Kristeen and Jerry Nations of North Richland Hills, and Ryan Johnson of Independence, MO; six grandchildren, one great -grandchild; sister and brother-in-law Mary Frances (Susie) and Don Caldwell; a niece, seven nephews, and numerous grand-nieces and -nephews. Inurnment will be at DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas, at 10:00 a.m., June 27, with a memorial service to follow Sunday, July 1, at Village Church of Christ, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation in memory of Kathleen Johnson and Norman McNiel or SPCA of Texas, Dallas, Texas.
