Patricia Ann Todd "Petey" Cotter Obituary
Cotter, Patricia "Petey" Ann Todd Petey was born on February 6, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to Edward and Ida Todd. She was raised in Columbus and received her education at North High School. Upon graduation, she went on to Ohio State University where she majored in Music with a focus in piano. Her talent led her to play for local radio stations. She was also a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She married her high school and college sweetheart, James Harry Cotter who passed away in August of 2008. They were married for 61 years. Petey passed away on February 17, 2014 at the age of 87. Petey lived a rich and full life. She was a little dynamo who never met a stranger, had a servant's heart, a kind word for everyone, coupled with her sweet, gentle spirit. During her life, Petey spent much of her time volunteering for the American Red Cross in her hometowns of Dallas, Texas; Jackson, Mississippi; and New Orleans, Louisiana. While living in New Orleans, she became involved in many local service and civic organizations. She was president of the Lake Terrace Garden Club, president of the Lake Terrace Women's Club as well as the Holiday Club. She was also a member of their Homeowner's Association and Metairie Country Club. She worshipped and served at Lake Vista United Methodist Church. Petey was a remarkable seamstress. She was self-taught and designed and made all of her clothes as well as her daughters. She would also give a great house-warming gift to many friends and relatives by making drapes for their new home. Petey also shared a passion for hunting and fishing with her husband. She was a big game hunter and even made the record books, Boone and Crocket and Safari International Club, with her trophies. She and her husband lived in New Orleans for more than 40 years until Hurricane Katrina caused a move to Baton Rouge, where they became residents of St. James Place. Petey is survived by her son, Gregory James Cotter and his wife Pennie Cotter of Baton Rouge; her daughter Kimberly Anne Emerson and her husband Reverend Doctor Richard Emerson of Longview, Texas; and three lovely granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Cotter of Nashville, Tennessee and Emily Grace and Hannah Faith Emerson also of Longview, Texas. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff for the loving care they gave our precious mother while residing at the Health and Wellness Center of St. James Place. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, March 1, 2014, at the W.R. Aldrich Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, LA officiated by her son-in-law, Reverend Doctor Richard Emerson.
