Rita Lenora Blackwell was born January 22nd, 1949 in Commerce, TX to parents A.C. and Mylie Williams. Rita attended Norris High School and graduated from Commerce High School. She majored in business at Texas A&M University, formerly East Texas State University. Rita was a founding member of the AKA sorority at East Texas State and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree. Upon graduation, Rita moved to Dallas to begin her career. She worked with companies including UNCF, SW Bell, Allstate Insurance, Southern Methodist University, and SCT Corporation. Towards the end of her career she combined her expertise in business with her love of education to become a teacher for the Cedar Hill ISD. She retired in January 2012. On April 8th, 1972, Rita married O.C. Blackwell. To this union, their daughter Courtney was born. Rita is survived by her loving family consisting of her husband of 41 years, O.C. Blackwell, daughter Courtney Blackwell Burton (Adam) of New Jersey, Cynthia Christle (Billy) of Dallas, Albert Curtis Williams Jr. of Georgetown, TX, Callie Hearne (Nathanial) of Arlington, TX, and Kenneth Williams of Commerce, TX., and a host of family and friends. VISITATION will be from 1- 9 pm, Friday July 12th at Black & Clark Funeral Home. SERVICE will be held at 11 AM, Saturday July 13th at Black & Clark Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will follow at Laureland Cemetery. Viewing only during visitation hours and from 10 - 11 am before the homegoing celebration.
