Darkes, Russell Russell J. Darkes, 93, Ret LTC, US Army, 36th Infantry Division, died peacefully July 19, 2013 surrounded by his family. A World War II Veteran serving in the European Theater, LTC Darkes was the recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronz Medal, and two Purple Hearts. Born in Lebanon, PA in 1919, he resided with his daughter and son-in-law in Grand Prairie since 2001. He is survived by two daughters: Kathleen Prokay, Charlotte, NC and Kris Davies (Gene), Grand Prairie TX; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be buried in Lebanon, PA. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Grand Prairie, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4729 S. Carrier Pkwy, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.
