Vaughan, Judge Samuel Kenneth Judge Vaughan was born March 10, 1924, in Denison, Texas and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 4, 2014 at the age of 89 in Garland, Texas. Ken Vaughan was the last surviving child of E. E. and Bess Vaughan. Upon graduation from Bells High School in Bells, Grayson County, Texas, Ken entered WW II in service to his country as a member of United States Army. Participating in the Asian-Pacific campaign, Kenneth earned a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and four Overseas Service Bars. Following the war, Ken enrolled in Baylor University graduating with a BS degree in Chemistry. Ken married Waco native, Sylvia Forsgard, and moved to Garland, Texas in 1949 as a chemist for Kraft Foods. Attending night school at SMU School of Law, Ken earned his Juris Doctorate in 1957 and for the next 18 years practiced Law in Dallas County. In 1974, Ken was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. After serving two terms as State Representative in the 64th and 65th Legislature of the Texas State House, Ken was appointed Judge of Dallas County Criminal Court of Appeals No. 2. He retired from the bench in 1998. Ken was active in the First Baptist Church, Garland, Texas serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher and serving on many committees. Ken also served Baylor University as a Trustee for the University in Waco, Texas as well as the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Ken was a member and past president of the Garland Exchange Club. Judge Kenneth Vaughan is survived by his wife Sylvia and their daughter, Cynthia Spencer and her husband John Spencer; granddaughter, Ashley Spencer Quinney and her husband, Cody Quinney; and great grandson, Grant Quinney. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Garland, Texas on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Internment will be at Cherry Mound Cemetery in Grayson County later that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church Garland.
