McLeod, Sarah "Sally" Helms Age 71, of Houston, died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on Friday, the 7th of March 2014. Sally, the daughter of William Eldridge "Squire" Helms and Eva Kelleher Helms was born on the 9th of August 1942, in Dallas. Sally was an honors student and head cheerleader at Highland Park High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was named one of "10 Most Beautiful" and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, earning her Bachelor of Arts. Sally married E. Douglas McLeod of Galveston where they raised three loving children, Chanse, Alexandra and Lindsey. She was active in many charitable and social organizations; The Daughters of the American Revolution, Junior League and the Republican Party, to name a few. Sally's smile could light up a room, and she will be sorely missed. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Squire and Eva; and is survived by her brother, John M. Helms and his longtime companion Greta Bernitz of Houston; son, Chanse and his wife Sara Overly McLeod of Houston; daughter, Alexandra McLeod and her fiancé John Z. Blazevich of Los Angeles; daughter, Lindsey McLeod McCrory and her husband Blake McCrory of Houston; together with her four grandchildren - Katherine, Chase and Pierce McLeod and Brady McCrory of Houston; her nephew, John M. Helms, Jr., his wife Jennifer Helms and their children Jack and Grace Helms of Dallas; her former husband, E. Douglas McLeod of Galveston, and numerous relatives in Florida. A memorial service was held on Thursday, the 13th of March, 2014, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons in Houston, where Reverend R-J Heijmen of St. Martin's Episcopal Church officiated. Sally's remains will rest in Dallas next to her parents at Sparkman/Hillcrest Memorial Park.
