1931 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Bhattacharya, Dr. Sauri P. (1931-2013) Dr. Sauri P. Bhattacharya was born on 1st September 1931, in India. He was a Professor of Political Science and Journalism at the University of Missouri(Columbia, Mo.), 1963-67 and South Eastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU, Durant, Oklahoma), 1967-1995. He was awarded the National Endowment in Humanities Fellowship at Harvard University Center of Middle Eastern Studies in 1983 and received a citation from SOSU in 1994 for outstanding research. He was proficient in eight languages including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Sanskrit and Bengali. He was a prolific writer, translated and authored many books and articles in English and Bengali. He and his wife, Dr. Anima Bhattacharya, lived in Plano, Texas for the past 23 years. He was well respected and a leader in the Indian community and often performed Hindu Priestly services in community festivals. He passed away on 8th November, 2013 in India leaving behind his devoted wife Anima and numerous friends and relatives.
