Shirley Ann Lively Smith, born August 2, 1934, in Dallas to Elsie Mae and Richard Price Lively, Shirley passed away March 20, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents and only sibling, Betty Lively Blaylock. Shirley is survived by her loving son, Richard Whitfield Smith; her cousins, Kris and Rita Moore; as well as nieces and nephews: Charles, Richard, and Suzanne Blaylock, and Julie and Charlie Halley. A graduate of Highland Park High School, Shirley received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and a Master's from Southern Methodist University. An active member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, she honored the friendships made therein throughout her life. A gifted educator and counselor, Ms. Smith began her teaching career in Midland. She served as Director of the Dallas ISD GED program, as well as performed in top Administrative capacity with the SMU Master of Liberal Arts Program for many years, where she touched and blessed countless lives. Shirley loved to travel, and she was known for her creativity, whether she was sewing clothes, creating ceramic collectibles, or making jewelry. But most of all, Shirley's truest gift was friendship. "The Girls," a sisterhood of her life-long friends, will miss Shirley's earthly presence. A service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held at 11:00am, April 4, at University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Blvd, in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
