Shwiff, Shirley Cohen Shirley Cohen Shwiff, 78, died peacefully at her home on December 10, 2013. Born on March 15, 1935, in Cairo, Illinois, to Edna and George Cohen, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Marvin G. Shwiff, and her daughter, Shelley Shwiff. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Shwiff and Laurie Shwiff; her son, Stephen Shwiff, and her daughter-in-law, Dr. Barbara Spezia; her beloved grandchildren, Austin, Emily and Nicholas Spezia-Shwiff; her brother, Norman A. Cohen, and sister-in-law, Ruth Cohen; her sister-in-law, Estelle Shwiff; and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Highland Park High School and the University of Texas at Austin, Shirley spent her adult life caring for her family and community. She volunteered for many organizations, from her children's school PTAs to national charities. Shirley also was an active member of the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood and received its Hall of Fame honor. Her hobbies included needlepoint, bridge and mah jongg, and she enjoyed travel and theater. Over the years, everyone in the family circle and beyond received a lovingly made personalized needlepoint from Shirley. Services will be Friday, December 13, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, Lefkowitz Chapel, 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX 75225 with burial following, Rabbi Debra J. Robbins presiding.
