Bessant, Sr., Tom FORT WORTH -- Tom Bessant Sr., 85, passed from this life Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. Tom came into the world on Feb. 16, 1927, Bunnell, Fla. He grew up in New Jersey and volunteered to proudly serve his country as a member of the 1st Army Ranger Batallion during World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, and three Purple Hearts. After graduating Rutgers University he moved to Dallas in 1951. He and his beloved wife owned and operated six formal wear stores in the Dallas area until retirement. He will be remembered as a devoted husband of 55 years, a loving father, beloved grandfather and a great friend to many. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Francine, in 2006; brother, Bill; and sister, Emmy Lou. Survivors: Sons, Tom Bessant Jr. and wife, Lise; Bob Hamilton and wife, Donna; daughter, Joanne Petroske and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Christine and Sarah, Julie, Todd, Melissa, Robert, Lisa and Lauren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack Bessant. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
