Dowd, William Kenneth William "Ken" Dowd, 81, went home to his Savior Jesus Christ Friday, February 1, 2013, in Dallas. Born December 29, 1931 in Dallas to William K. and Vallie (Armstrong) Dowd. Ken lived his life as a caring, loving Christian gentleman and will be greatly missed. He left the world a better place for all who knew and loved him. Ken graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949 and attended Texas A&M University. He was a lifelong fan of Aggie Football and a member of the Association of Former Students Century Club. Ken served 4 years in the Air Force Reserve and was a proud Texan and American. He was a high school football referee from 1965-1982 where he met many of his life time friends. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church for 50 years where he enjoyed Sunday mornings in Tim Hughes' Bible Study Class. Ken retired from Teleflex Aerospace in 1996 after 30 years of employment. Ken's love and knowledge of aircraft began when he was a child and was a joy he pursued until his death. Notably, the T-38A Talon, was his favorite. In 1961 he married the love of his life, Shirley Emerson. Ken is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Jamie Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, daughters Sherilyn Jordan and Leigh Ballantyne, son-in-law Scott Ballantyne, grandsons Kyle and Joey Ballantyne, sister-in-law Lynn Spivey, best friend Bill Barber and numerous cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 7, 2:00pm at Lakeside Baptist Church, 9150 Garland Rd in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation.
