William Ray "Bill" Wolfard Obituary
Wolfard, William Ray "Bill" William Ray "Bill" Wolfard was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 29, 1925, the son of Ethelyn Cochran and Noah Ellsworth Wolfard. He passed surrounded by his loved ones on May 30, 2014. After graduating from University High School in Norman, Bill joined the Army and served in Europe (France, Germany & Belgium) from 1943 to 1946 as a member of the Engineer Division. He attended OK City University, University of Oklahoma and Northwestern University before beginning his professional career at KTOW radio station in Oklahoma City. Bill moved to Dallas in 1949 and continued his radio/tv career at WFAA where he met the love of his life Gloria Gay Dysart. They were married in 1950 and moved to Carrollton in 1955. Bill and Gay were both talented soloists at First United Methodist Church of Dallas, where Bill worked for Dr. Goodrich, when they were asked to lead the music for the Methodist Church in Carrollton in 1959. Bill with the chancel choir and Gay with the youth choirs positively touched many lives with their passion, talent and energy. Bill continued his ministry of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Dallas and was a popular guest at many summer revivals in the 5 state area. Bill was recruited by Dr. Boone and Methodist Hospital and led the fund raising for the Golden Cross Foundation for 15 years. He finished his career at Foremost Insurance and retired in 1990. Bill was preceded in death by brothers Don Cochran and Neal Ellsworth. He is survived by his brother Robert Eugene of Norman, OK. He is also survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Gay, and three children, Julie Gay Cunniff and husband Michael, Steven Ray and wife Bridget and Kenneth Jay and wife Christy. His legacy also includes four grandchildren whom he loved unconditionally, Travis Michael Cunniff and wife Jenny, Cody Ray Wolfard and wife Lauren, Steven Luke Wolfard and Henley Christine Wolfard. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00AM Saturday, June 7th at First United Methodist Church Dallas, 1928 Ross Ave. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all gifts be directed to the Music and Arts of FUMC Dallas or Crossroads Community Services, 1822 Young Street 2nd Floor, Dallas, Texas 75201.
