News Death Notice

FENTON, Col. Clayton Charles, Jr., USMC, Retired (nickname Bud) age 90, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Charles Fenton & Ferne Marie Abbey; first wife, Dorothy June Williams Fenton; and his sister, Betty Yost. Survived by his wife, Doris Williams Fenton; daughters, Abbey (Barry) Carroll of West Milton, OH and Sherry (Robert) White of Mansfield, OH; son, Clayton Fenton III of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Amanda (Aaron) Zimmerman and Lyndsey (Pete) Anderson; three great-grandsons, Clayton & Leo Zimmerman and Max Anderson; a sister Suzanne (Gene) Fetner; stepchildren Lynn (Dennis) Zukowski and Bradley (Kimberly) Abbey; and step-grandchildren Zachary, Kelsey and Tessa Zukowski. He was Valedictorian of Fowlerville High School in 1941. After attending Michigan State for two years, Bud was called to duty in the Marine Corps because of WW II. He earned his Mechanical Engineer Degree at MSU and was called back to serve in the Korean conflict. As a Captain, Bud led the last contingent of Marines from Korea to San Diego in 1955. Later Bud earned his MBA at the University of Michigan. His military career spanned over 30 years and he was stationed in England, Okinawa, Vietnam, Parris Island, SC and lastly Dayton, working at DESC. He was proud to serve his country and was awarded the "Legion of Merit with Combat V". He loved collecting stamps and coins, gardening, volunteering and supporting numerous charities and sharing his love of family and will be remembered for being a generous, kind and gentle man who had a strong sense of right and wrong. A funeral service will be held at 4 pm Saturday, March 1, at MORRIS SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1771 E. Dorothy Lane, Kettering, OH. Burial will be at Dayton National Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive friends 2 hours prior to service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton. Condolences may be sent to www.morris-sons.com
