Courtney MURRELL Obituary

News Death Notice

MURRELL, Courtney Age 89, of Miamisburg, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at Elmcroft of Washington Township, Miamisburg under the care of Heartland Hospice. He was born July 9, 1924 in Booneville, Kentucky to the late William and Laura (Bowman) Murrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Eva (Gay) Murrell (April 13, 2011) and his siblings. Courtney is survived by sons, Monte (Marlissa) Murrell of Beavercreek and Keith (Darlene) Murrell of Union, KY; grandchildren, Michael (Liza) Murrell, Sarah (Nate) Bealor, Garrett Murrell and Carson Murrell; great grandchildren, Emily and Nathan and numerous other extended family members. Courtney was a WWII veteran serving for the US Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He was employed as a welder for over 38 years with Oxford/Miami Paper Co. and was a long time member of the Moraine Heights Baptist Church. Courtney had a strong attachment to his faith having served as a church deacon, usher and maintenance worker as well as having read the Bible 22 times. He enjoyed Lake Cumberland, exercising, running, walking, his daily ice cream and vacationing at the beach. In his younger days, he participated in outdoor activities which included hunting, fishing and beagle training. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday, April 21, 2014 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Funeral services will begin 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Moraine Heights Baptist Church, Dayton officiated by Pastor Terrell Hudson. Burial will take place 12:00 Noon Friday, April 25 at Shepherds Memorial Cemetery, Booneville, KY. Memorial contributions may be made to the at Miami Valley Chapter, 31 Whipp Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459 or Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton OH 45420.
