CURTIS, Dan 55, of Troy, died Wed., Jan. 16, 2013. First and foremost a father and husband, Dan also was a preeminent champion for Dayton. As president of Curtis Consulting and before that at Bearing Point (now KPMG), he was a tireless advocate for Wright-Patterson AFB. One of the original employees of the Dayton Development Coalition where he was on staff from 1995 to 2002, Dan played an especially vital role in protecting Wright-Patt during the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure process. Dan attended Ohio State University, Dan's life-long passion for politics and public policy began when he was a page and then a legislative aide in the Ohio House of Representatives in the 1970s. Ultimately he rose to become the executive assistant to the legendary Ohio House Speaker Vern Riffe. In that role from 1980-83, Dan was known for his loyalty, integrity, superb political acumen and his golf game. Dan was the president of the Dayton Wright Chapter of AFCEA International and a board member of the Ohio Aerospace Institute, the Dayton Area Graduate Studies Institute and the Wright State University Research Institute. He also served on the WYSO Resource Board and was a past board president of CHOICES, Inc. Dan is survived by his wife Amy (Snyder); his children, Kevin, Chelsea, and Matthew and a nephew Michael. Born Feb. 24, 1957, he was preceded in death by his parents John and Doris Curtis and his sister Sandy Knight. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Marker Heller Funeral Home, 5844 Troy Pike, Huber Heights. A service will be held immediately after. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Memory of Dan can be made to the AFCEA Educational Fund at the Dayton Foundation, 500 Kettering Tower, Dayton, OH 45423.
