News Death Notice

JACKSON, Donald E. age 89, of Apollo Beach, Florida and formerly of Vandalia, Ohio, died at home on April 4, 2014. Don was born in Greenville, Ohio on April 29, 1924, to James and Lucile Jackson. He attended Greenville High School, graduating in 1942. He went on to receive a Masters of Civil Engineering from Ohio State University in 1950. Following graduation, Don joined Price Brothers Company in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked for 35 years before helping form and operate Flexicore Systems Inc. until his retirement in 1990. Don served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Corp during WWII, serving from 1943 to 1946, and was stationed in the China Theater as an Armorer with the 51st Fighter Group: 16th Fighter Squadron. A loving and nurturing husband, father, brother and son, Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Fishing, tennis, golf, traveling and backyard volleyball games were among his many favorite pastimes. He remained an OSU football fan his entire life. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Geraldine "Gerry" Brown and first wife of 36 years Gloria, Don is survived by his wife of 21 years Cheri; son Sego, and his partner Raven and their daughter Tashina of Whidbey Island, Washington; daughter Jan Kauffman and her husband Rod of New Hope, Kentucky; stepdaughter Amy Downey and her husband John and son Jake of Leesburg, Georgia; brother-in-law Ivan Brown of Arcanum, Ohio and many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed. Don requested cremation. No services are planned. If desired, the family asks that you make a contribution to a on Don's behalf, or recall a fond memory of Don to honor him
