CROTHERS, Donald R. age 85, of Delaware, passed from this life and into God's great kingdom on Friday, April 18, 2014. He was born October 28, 1928 in Sabina, Ohio to the late James T. and Goldie Mae (Tolle) Crothers. He was a graduate of Silver Creek High School and attended Wilmington College. He served in the US Navy from 1949 - 1954, a sonar man on the USS Brownson which went to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd. He was a veteran of both WW II and the Korean Conflict for which he was called back into the Navy and served on the USS Bataan. He enjoyed and attended every Navy Reunion. Don moved to Delaware in 1980 from Texas, and worked for Flxible Corporation for 13 years, serving as a Director of Field Services. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Worthington Christian Church where he loved to serve and study the bible and life with his small group. He was also a member of the State American Legion and Board Member and volunteer for the Delaware County Genealogy Society. Great life passions included his family, Navy and all friends, traveling, sports, reading, history, fishing and telling stories. Don is survived by his beloved wife Doris (Mackley) of 18 years; sons Michael (Pam) and David Crothers; daughter Kathleen (Louie) Chavis; granddaughters Jennifer and Keely Crothers; stepchildren Karen (John) Lane and David Innis; step grandchildren Justin (Heather) Lane, Matthew (Elizabeth) Lane, Corby Lane and Laura Innis; step great grandchildren Eva, Brea, Sawyer, and Lila Lane; sister Dorothy Wiseman; brother Richard (Mary) Crothers; sister-in-law Marie Crothers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara (Croft) in 1990 and his son Kevin in 2004 and brothers Eugene and James Crothers and a sister Betty Shepherd. Friends may call from 4:00 - 6:00 pm Monday April 21st at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware and from 9:00 - 10:00 am Tuesday, April 22nd at the Worthington Christian Church, 8145 North High St., Columbus, OH 43235, where Celebration of His Life services will follow at 10:00 am with Rev. Marshall Hayden officiating. Graveside services will then follow at 2:00 pm in the Silver Creek Township Cemetery near Jamestown with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Worthington Christian Church or Delaware County Genealogy Society, 84 E. Winter St., Delaware, OH 43015.
