News Death Notice

SHERRER, Jr., Earskin age 66 of Dayton, departed this life on Monday, January 28, 2013 following a long and hard battle with MS. He was born February 20, 1946 in Augusta, Maine and resided in Dayton for the majority of his life. Earskin was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1964. He attended Fisk University and Central State University. Earskin was a member of Dixon United Methodist Church. He was Past Master of Harmony Lodge No. 77, Past Potentate of Amer Temple No. 107, and Past Patron of Deborah Chapter No. 19, OES. Earskin retired from General Motors following 32 years of service. He also served as the United Way Labor Coordinator for GM and as Social Action Director for the IUE Local 801 and was Vice President of Board of Director for Local 801 Credit Union (now DayMet Credit Union). He is preceded in death by his parents, Earskin and Lucy Geneva Sherrer. He is survived by his wife, Laurice; his devoted daughter, Staci (Larry Crenshaw) and Staci's mother, Carmen Sherrer; (3) step-children, Odessa (James Lawson, Sr.), Melissa (Robert Biery) and Charles M. Gilbert, Jr.; (3) grandchildren, Timothy Barr, Jr., Timara Barr and Michael James; (6) step-grandchildren; (2) step-great granddaughters; (4) brothers, John (Cynthia) of Dayton, Christopher (Yvonne) of Boca Raton, FL, Ahmad of Mountain View, CA and Charles (Vanica) of Miami, FL.; (1) uncle, Paul (Shirley); special cousin, Lloyd Clark; (3) sisters-in-law, (6) brothers-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Diamonds Alexander, NP-C, MSN Nurse Practitioner, and the staff of Stone Springs Transitional Care Center and Hospice of Evercare and Miami Valley Hospital. Funeral service 11:00 A.M., SATURDAY, February 2, 2013 at DIXON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 1691 Infirmary Rd., with Pastor Marty McMichale, officiating. Interment: West Memory Gardens.
