News Death Notice

MARSHALL, Gerald J. age 86, formerly of Dayton, OH passed away at his residence on Monday, July 14, 2014. Gerald was born on November 24, 1927 in Detroit, MI to the late Thomas and Jenny (Witaszek) Melowski. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Shirley and his son, Steven. Gerald grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He and Shirley returned to Canada often for family vacations. Gerald was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. After the war, he spent his entire working career at Wright-Patterson A.F.B. where he was a draftsman. He was closely associated with the design of the F-16 'Fighting Falcon' aircraft. Gerald enjoyed doing household projects and playing golf, tennis and poker. He was also an avid lover of walking. He was very involved in fund-raising activities for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Gerald and Shirley also volunteered extensively at the St. Leonard Senior Community in Centerville. Gerald was always an active member in his church, including such congregations as St. Peter's Catholic Church in Huber Heights and Church of the Incarnation in Centerville. He is survived by his son, David (Barbara) Marshall; grandchildren, Casey (Betsy), Carmella and Carson; great-grandchild, Alice; sister, Del (Fred) Stellings; daughter-in-law, Tatiane; beloved cousin, Beverly Nusca; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10am on Friday, September 5, 2014 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9633 E. State Route 37, Sunbury, OH 43074. Fr. David Sizemore, Celebrant. Immediately following the Mass a gathering of family, friends and food will be held at the church.
