News Death Notice
MCDANIEL, Gilbert H. age 90 of Lexington, KY and formerly of Bellbrook, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Mattson and Clarence McDaniel and a sister, Mildred Lucille McDaniel. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys McDaniel. His children also survive him: sons, Larry Grant McDaniel and Richard Leugers and one daughter, Peggy Price. He is survived by two sisters: Dorothy L. Bullins and Doris Morris and one brother, James F. McDaniel. Seven grandchildren also survive him: Donald Leugers, Ronald Leugers, Pam Davis, Bryan Price, Deborah Pyzdrowski, Kim Perez and Connie Lobato, as do 20 great -grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gilbert was a US Army Veteran of World War II and was at Omaha Beach on D-Day, building Bailey Bridges for Patton's VI Army. Enlisted from 1942 until 1945, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and a Good Conduct Medal while serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres. He was a manager at Rike's Department Store for the majority of his working life and was also a beloved Santa Claus for more than 40 years in the Dayton area. Funeral services were held at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME- Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. at Noon on Thursday, February 28 with Chaplain Don Leicy officiating. Interment with military honors was in Glen Haven Memorial Garden Cemetery. Contributions may be made to The Disabled American Veterans in Gilbert's memory.
