HANNING, John Elmo 1926 - 2014 John Elmo Hanning, a long time resident of Kettering / Centerville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014. John was born on November 24, 1926 in Chauncey, Ohio, growing up in the Dayton area. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sue Hanning. He is survived by his sister Glenetta Belford of Sacramento, Ca., sister Judy Benson of Columbus, Oh., children Cindy Turner of Irvine, Ca., Sheila Schwede (Todd) of San Diego, Ca., Scott Hanning (Josie) of Las Vegas, Nv., grandchildren Aaron Pearson, Jason Peason, Max Schwede, John Hanning, great grandchildren Lauren Penrod, Silas Pearson. Special friend and long time campanion Elizabeth Douglas. John enlisted in the Army in December 1946 and was honorably discharged as a CPL in 1949. He married the love of his life Marion Sue Eckler in 1948, they were happily married for 46 years until Sue's passing in 1994. After serving in the military, John was a Dayton Police Officer for 27 years receiving a number of accommodations during his service. After retiring from the Police Dept he worked for Consolidated Freight for 10 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion and served on the board of his Home Owners Association. John had many interests throughout his life especially spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading, dancing, motorcycles, visiting casinos and playing golf. He will always be remembered for his loving heart, kind spirit, warm smile and his willingness to help others. He will be missed by many. There will be a Memorial Service announcement at a later date.
