MONG, John Richard Age 88, passed away April 24. Born March 14, 1926, to Charles L. Mong and Mary Fitzgerald Mong, Johns grandfather was former Greenville mayor and U.S. Congressman William T. Fitzgerald. John graduated in the class of 1944 from Greenville High School, then entered the US Army where he served honorably in the European campaign. After the war, John graduated from Oberlin College in 1950, attended graduate school at Princeton University and was accepted into the doctoral program at the Russian Institute at Columbia University. John spent most of his career in New York City. He was Fiction Editor at The Saturday Evening Post, and served in various editing roles at G.P. Putnams, Doubleday and Pegasus publishing houses. John is survived by his nephew, Robert Mong of Dallas, TX, Charles Mong, Indianapolis, IN, nieces Catherine Mong of Dayton, Martha Culp of Centerville, grand nephew, Eric Mong, Dallas, grand nieces; Elizabeth Mong, Dallas, Molly Blackshear, Dayton, Pam Persing Barnet, Winnett, MT. The family will conduct a private memorial service. Donations in John Mongs name can be made to Garst Museum, 205 N. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331
