News Death Notice
PRETHER, Lester H. age 88, passed away Friday March 7, 2014. Lester served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre during W.W. II. He recently was taken to the W.W. II Memorial in Washington as part of the Honor Flight Program. He was active locally in the American Legion in Miamisburg and the Kettering VFW post. He was past president of the Centerville Kiwanis Club; and served as a scout master to the Alpha, OH Boy Scout Troop. Lester was especially proud of serving as president of the Miami Valley Auto Dealers Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice Prether, four sisters, Barbara, Anna Mary, Beulah and Carol; He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Leslie (Jeffrey) Stricker, Amy Prether, Debbie (Thom) Shaffer, and Karen (Jeff) Wright; four brothers, James, Richard, Edward, and David Prether; and nine grandchildren; Visitation will be Friday March 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home 5471 Far Hills Ave. (Far Hills and Rahn). Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Swisher officiating. Interment will be in David's Cemetery. Donations in Lester's memory may be forwarded to the charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to St. Leonard's Care Center for their loving care, especially to Gayle his nurse and loving friend. I am so sorry to here that Lester has passed. I was a next door neighbor to Les and Carol for about 7 or 8 years. They were always ready with kind words and open hearts. God bless the Prether family.
