News Death Notice
SHROYER, Robert J. (aka Gus, Tommy) died on March 30, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. Born to William and Edna (Crawford) Shroyer on August 7, 1928 at 11:55 pm (five minutes later and his birth date would have been 8/8/28). Thereafter he celebrated the anniversary of his birth date every year. Preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Renate. Survived by his seven children, each claiming to be his favorite, and their families: Maria Shroyer and Tom Bodner; Monika Shroyer, Pat Rohrer, children Irina and Jakson Henri; Brigitta Shroyer and Joel Anderson; Renate and Steve Kelly, children Matt and wife Justine, David, Emily and fiance David Bauer, Caroline; Chris and Leah Shroyer, son Eric Theresa and Angel Delao, children Katrina and Renate; Robert S. Shroyer and Samantha Cope, daughter Posey. And his favorite great-grandchild, Scott Kelly, who Dad was so happy to learn will become a big brother in September. Also survived by his brother, Don Shroyer of Muncie, IN, nephew and Godson, Dave Gasper, and numerous relatives and countless friends. He graduated from Chaminade HS in 1948, working odd jobs to pay his way, from the University of Dayton in 1954, and with a Masters from Purdue University in 1957. He worked at NCR from 1957-1991. He was a lifelong supporter of The University of Dayton Flyer basketball team and was aware they made it to the Elite 8. Go Flyers! In the last few years he loved traveling to Europe with groups from St. Anthony church. He had a fabulous sense of humor which he kept up throughout his illness. He liked to tease everyone to keep off his grass and loved giving his grandchildren noseys. His children would appreciate hearing stories about their Dad.
