Roberta Rae (Parker) EASTERLING Obituary

News Death Notice

EASTERLING, Roberta Rae (Parker) 65, passed away from cancer Oct. 23 at home in Centerville. Bobbie will be remembered for her commitment to friends and family, her humor and spirit of creativity. Bobbie was born to Morrison and Beryl Parker Oct. 31, 1946, in Washington, D.C. Her father's military career took them across the world, including Japan, Germany and Guam, before they settled in San Antonio when Bobbie was a teenager. As an adult with her own family, Bobbie made loving homes as they moved around the East Coast and Midwest before settling in Centerville in 1992. Bobbie earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. Her career included teaching college-level English and grant writing, including many years for Sinclair Community College in Dayton. She retired in 2012 from the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, where since 2000 she had written grants and served in other roles, including assistant to the president. Bobbie secured various grants for the museum, helping the Boonshoft bring in many exhibits she herself loved to experience and visit. Bobbie had a quick sense of humor, particularly when it came to puns and wordplay. She loved reading, writing poetry, painting, cooking and filling her home with friends and family. Her imagination was a true gift to those who knew her. She was a dedicated mother to her daughters and was devoted to the Easterlings' many pets. Bobbie is survived by daughter Thea Easterling and Thea's boyfriend, Chris Gooley, of Centerville; daughter Camden (Bryan) Swindell of Livingston, Mont.; her mother, Beryl Parker, of San Antonio, Texas; brother Richard Parker of San Antonio; sister Vicki (David) Wright, of Austin, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Morrison Parker. In lieu of flowers, Bobbie requested donations be sent to Dr. Joyce O'Shaughnessy via the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center. To donate, go to marycrowley.org; click on donate, then choose "Other" as the fund designation, then type in Joyce O'Shaughnessy Breast Cancer Research Fund. Or, mail donations to: Mary Crowley Research Foundation, Attn: Ellen Dearman, 1700 Pacific Ave., Suite 1100, Dallas, TX 75201 with donations designated to the Joyce O'Shaughnessy, MD Breast Cancer Research Fund. A celebration of Bobbie's life will be held at Tobias Funeral Home on Far Hills Avenue on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Please join the family in remembering Bobbie with a service followed by a visitation at Tobias.
