News Death Notice

MELLAS, Sam P. age 86, of Kettering, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center. Sam was a retired co-owner of National Bowling House and the manager of Driftwood Bowl. He was a longtime member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, played on the church basketball team, assisted publishing the church newspaper "The Hellenic Star", U.S. Army Veteran and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from UD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Stamatina Mellas. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Connie; daughter, Stephanie Mellas of Arcata, CA; son & daughter-in-law, Peter & Cathy Mellas of Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Helen Smith of Minneapolis, MN., & Betty Bliss of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Mandy North, Alex & Gabriel Mellas; great-grandsons, Owen & Oakley; and many other relatives & friends. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North with Father Mark P. Emroll officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Marker & Heller Funeral Home, North Main St. Chapel, 1706 North Main St. from 5-7 PM Monday with Trisagion prayers at 6 PM. The family would like to thank Walnut Creek Nursing Center for the loving care they provided to Sam. If desired memorial contributions may be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund in Sam's memory.
