Virgil J. "Whitey" KIER Obituary

News Death Notice

KIER, Virgil J. "Whitey" age 94, Scottsdale, Arizona, died August 12, 2014. Virgil was born to the late Francis and Leona Kier in Hollowtown, near Hillsboro, Ohio, and moved to Dayton as a child. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Marcella (Stiles) Kier and brothers Harry and Richard Kier. He is survived by his brother James Kier and sister, Lydia (Floyd) Head, children Nancy Barnes and Mike (Vicki) Kier, grandchildren David Barnes, Stephanie (Dan) Varble, and Cheryl Bailey, and eight great-grandchildren. Virgil was a marine with the 1st Marine Division during WWII at the battles of Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu, earning the Bronze Star with "V" and a Purple Heart. He was a life member of VFW Stuart Patterson Post 2800. Virgil was employed by NCR for 41 years in the Carpentry and Building & Grounds Maintenance departments. An avid RVer throughout his life, following retirement, Virgil and Marcella moved to D'Hanis, Texas, where they were members of the Lone Star Corral of the SKPs. Interment of ashes at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH. At Virgil's request, there will be no memorial service.
