Charley Milton Cottrell, 91, of Deer Park, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, TX, after a long illness. Charley was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he attended regularly prior to his illness and where he inspired many. Many Deer Park-area Bridge and 42 players will remember Charley's daily play at the Maxwell Center in Deer Park. Charley was born on July 2, 1922, in Leroy, TX to Malinda Addie Pitts and William David Cottrell. His military career covered World War II, the Korea War, and the Viet Nam conflict. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps prior to WWII and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and US Air Force for 31 years. He was preceded in death by Elsie Augustine, his wife of 57 years; and his twin sister Mildred Walker. Survivors include his daughter Malinda Clement, her husband Hiram, and their children, Clarissa and Leonard; and his son Charles, wife Linda, and their children, Amber and Bradley. Other survivors are sisters Joy Lennon and Marjorie Jolley of Shreveport, LA; sister Faye Hayes from Tyler,TX ; brother Billy Cottrell, and wife Barbara of Tyler, TX. In addition, he is survived by step son Edward Earl Malone and wife Jenny from Bastrop, LA, and their children; brother- in- law Jerry Peters and wife Judy, both from Summertown, TN and their children; sister- in-law Joyce Scallions and her husband Robert from Germantown, TN, and their children; and many nieces and nephews. Both visitation and the funeral were held at Niday- Fairmont Funeral Home on Sunday, November 17, 2013. The burial was Monday, November 18, at White House Cemetery in White House, TX. A grave side service preceded the burial in White House. Charley's friends at the Maxwell Senior Center held a Celebration of his life on Thursday, November, 21, 2013, for his friends and family.
