William "Billy" Price Bess, Jr. passed away on July 29, 2013 in Kountze, TX at the age of 69. He was born on February 27, 1944 in Jasper, TX to the union of William Price Bess, Sr. and Anita Rae Wilson-Bess. Billy was a resident of Deer Park, TX for over 45 years. He retired from the Deer Park Police department and also from S&B Engineers. Billy was a trumpet player during his youth and played in a band. He no longer played in a band, but proudly displayed his trumpet on the wall. Billy was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served in Antarctica, and often spoke of having been to both poles of the world. Billy was an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, camping, and woodworking. He was also a car enthusiast. Billy amazed people with his knowledge of every make and model of classic cars. His most recent gardening endeavor was growing grapes of every color, and a variety of berries. Billy was a kind generous man, often aiding others with their yard work when they were in need. He was a designer of woodwork projects. He made many things of wood and was a "hands on" kind of guy. He loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart, and his faithful dog Buster A Dogg. Billy's memory will be treasured by those who knew and loved him. Billy is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 38 years Charlane Bess; and brother-in-law, Billy Wayne Pipes. He is survived by his wife of 3 years Virginia Bess; 2 daughters, Shawna Romike and her husband Jason, Britani Bess; 2 step-sons, Jarrod Walton and his wife Becky, Ramdy Walton and his wife Kelly; 4 grandchildren, Victoria English, Haidyn Hardcastle, Lillian Romike, and Price Romike; 1 brother, Brian Bess and his wife Sally; 2 sisters, Beverly Pipes, Bonita Smith and her husband Clifton. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Grand View Funeral Home on Thursday, August 1, 2013. Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Immediately following, Billy will be laid to rest with military honors in Grand View Memorial Park. Those desiring to do so may make contributions in memory of Billy to any local library.
