BOX IRON— Ed Lynch, 81, of Box Iron died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at his home. Born in Chincoteague, he was a son of the late Harvey Lee Lynch and late Alice L. Sharpley. In 1953, he was married to Violet Holloway of Berlin.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1948-52. During his enlistment, he served as a quartermaster aboard the USS Des Moines (CA-134) and the USS Mississippi (EAG-128).
Ed was a devoted husband, father, brother, Poppop and much more. His passion and lifelong career was being a commercial waterman. While running his family-owned seafood business, he welded and worked at Moore Business Forms for 17 years to provide for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Violet Lynch; brother, Harvey and his wife, Pauline, brother Richard and his wife, Bert; daughter from his first marriage, Gary Simms and her husband, Clay, son, Eddie and his wife, Joanne, son, Dale and his wife, Beverly, daughter, Brenda Bounds and her husband, Chester, son, David, and son, John; grandchildren, Shelley, April, Tracy and Rusty Lynch and his wife, Melissa, Chris Simms and Gloria Ball and her husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Kayla Lynch and Declan Ball; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held Saturday at the Snow Hill Fire Department, where friends may pay their respects to the family from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be a private family gathering following the service.
