FRUITLAND-Ernest John Gibbons Jr., 74, of Fruitland died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, as result of automobile accident in Virginia. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Ernest John Gibbons Sr. and Mary Pauline Hudson Gibbons.
"EJ" was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War and a member of the Army National Guard of Maryland and was a Reserve of the Army. He was a co-owner, truck driver and Tidewater Supply. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Coast Guard Reserves and president of The Stripers Club. He was a charter boat captain and owner of "Shorbilly." He enjoyed fishing, decoys, feeding his Muscovy ducks and talking with his many friends at Texas Roadhouse, Red Roost and the Bank of Willards. He also enjoyed driving his truck and taking care of his customers any day or time they needed him.
He is survived by a daughter, Laurie Pearson and her husband, Kenny, of Fruitland; a grandson, Dusty and his wife, Sarah; a granddaughter, Stephanie; a great-grandson, Luke; a brother, Douglas M. Gibbons and his wife, Rebecca, of Snow Hill; a sister, Margo Townsend and her husband, Mike, of Evans, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Cocoa.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior.
