Salisbury— Gary E. Wilkinson, Sr., 81, of Salisbury, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born in Hebron he was the only son of the late F. Morris "Spot" and Bernice Wilkinson.
Mr. Gary Wilkinson served in combat during the Korean War with the U.S. Army 68th AAA Gun Batallion. Following the war he began a U.S. Air Force career in communications. He was honorably discharged from the service upon retirement in 1970. In Salisbury he began a career in hospitality. He was active in Christian service and was a faithful member of Delmarva Evangelistic Church.
He is survived by step-sons, Raymond V. Szmajda, and Bruce D. Szmajda and his wife Anna; three grandchildren, Joshua Szmajda and his wife Maera, Sarah Szmajda affianced to David Chapman, and Rachael Szmajda.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Anna Mae Lyons Wilkinson, their son Gary E. Wilkinson, Jr, and his step-son Milton J. Szmajda, Jr.
On Monday at noon a service will be held at Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury. Interment with military honors will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore (Beulah) in Hurlock following the service.
