George F. Wagner III

NEW CASTLE—George F. Wagner III, 65, of New Castle, Del., passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Born in Salisbury on June 4, 1948, Mr. Wagner was the son of the late George F. Wagner Jr. and Nancy Day Wagner.

He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and, in civilian life, made his career with the General Motors Corp., from which he retired in 2005.

Active in his community, Mr. Wagner was a life member of the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company. In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed playing golf, fishing, taking trips to the beach, listening to country music and cheering each season for his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Green Bay Packers. He delighted most of all in spending time with his beloved wife, Kathy (who passed away in 2006), his family, and his many good friends, especially during their many happy and memorable summer vacations.

In addition to his parents and Kathy, he was preceded in death by his best friend and brother-in-law, Bobby Thompson. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia A. Wagner and Gail C. England, both of New Castle; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Cheryl Thompson, David Kibler, Woody and Ninny Kibler and Donna Anderson; and aunts, uncles, and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home at 1000 N. DuPont Parkway in New Castle. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Gracelawn Memorial Park at 2220 N. DuPont Parkway in New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720; or the Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd., Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910 (1-800-882-1316).
