Jackson Twp., NJ-John E. Poppe, 86, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Poppe was born and raised in Jackson Twp., relocating to Parksley, VA, for 22 years, returning to Jackson Twp. 2 months ago.
Mr. Poppe owned and operated Kaye Well Drilling, as a master well driller, in Jackson Twp. for 41 years, retiring in 1991. John proudly served his country with the United States Army, 160th Infantry Regiment, 40th Division, during World War II and received the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Poppe was a life-member of the Jackson Mills Vol. Fire Company (Station 54), a past member of the V.F.W. Post 4703 in Jackson Twp., and a member of the Unted Christian Church in Parksley, VA. John was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Estella Poppe; his wife, Lorena Matthews Poppe in 2007; his son, Fred S. Poppe in 1990; his Daughter, Patricia A. Poppe in 2009; and by his son-in-law, Thomas Mitchell in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Joan A. Mitchell of Jackson Twp., NJ; his sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Karen Poppe of Jackson Twp., NJ, and Gary D. and Christine Poppe of Jackson Twp., NJ; his sister, Mary E. Poppe of Jackson Twp., NJ; and by his 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of the George S.
