Lee E. Ryan, Jr

SALISBURY-Lee E. Ryan, Jr., 78, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at his home in Salisbury. Born on June 9, 1935, at his grandparents' farm near Preston, Md., he was the first child of the late Lee Ryan, Sr., and Mary Nepert Ryan.

He was a graduate of Wicomico High School, Class of 1953, and of Strayer University, to which he won a competitive academic scholarship. He was employed in the Washington, D.C. area, most notably as controller of a national trade association, treasurer of its political action committee, established and served as director of a Bermuda-based captive reinsurer, financial manager of a DOL apprenticeship training program and director of three insurance-pension trusts. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and School in Silver Spring, Md., where he served two terms as President, four terms as Controller and as a member of many other boards and committees. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and was a Cub Scout Leader and Boy Scout Scoutmaster. He played on the Church softball and bowling teams and coached the boys' softball team. Declining health curtailed his activities after transferring his membership to Bethany Lutheran Church in Salisbury. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

After the deaths of his wives, Jane Hagerton and Linda Poling, he returned to Salisbury and married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Williams Lynch. He is survived by Carloyn and his children, Keith Poling and his wife, Sharon, their sons Brandon and Brett of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Shawn of Colorado, Patricia Ryan Robertson and her children, James and Leigh of Rockville, Md., and Karen Lynch Heath and her son, Brennan of Salisbury. He is also survived by brothers, William and his wife, Barbara, David and his wife, Barbara, all of Salisbury; and sister, Dorothy Bayly and her husband, Robert of Mardela Springs; brother-in-law, Douglas Williams of Salisbury, and aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 817 Camden Ave., Salisbury, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Kevin Wackett, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park.
