PRINCESS ANNE — Merle E. Montfort, 86, died peacefully of natural causes at Aurora Senior Living of Manokin in Princess Anne on Saturday, June 26, 2012. Born on June 19, 1926, in Peekskill, N.Y., she was the beloved only child of the late Joseph Montfort and Mabel Gregg Montfort.
A 1944 graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, Merle studied business at New York University and worked for more than 40 years in investment services at Chase Bank on Wall Street in New York City. She enjoyed musical theater, traveling and serving in any capacity at her beloved Tremont Terrace Moravian Church.
Local relatives include Robin Chandler Miles (Chris) of Pocomoke City and Tracy Chandler King of Berlin. She is also survived by cousins in New Jersey, North Carolina and Connecticut, as well as a host of contemporaries and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her fiance, Ewen MacDonald.
A memorial service will be held at Tremont Terrace Moravian Church, Bronx, N.Y., at a later date.
