Salisbury—W. Brooks Parks, 97, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Lakeside Assisted Living in Salisbury. He was born May 20, 1915, near Parksley to the late William and Lee Gibbons Parks.
Brooks was very proud to be an American and loved his country, having served 4 and a half years in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific in World War II. After the war he and his wife, Mildred Lewis Parks, settled in Salisbury. Mr. Parks was a businessman for 35 years, having founded and owned Parks Wholesale Co. as an Anheuser Busch distributor. Brooks was a past commander and lifetime member of VFW Post 194, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 654, American Legion, Softball Hall of Fame and past member of Maryland Wholesalers Association. He also enjoyed bowling and owning race horses. He was a 60-plus year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, having left briefly to help start Christ United Methodist Church. He did many deeds for others without any recognition. He and his wife were fortunate to spend many winters in Florida among friends and to have traveled in all 50 states.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mildred; two brothers, James Parks and Millard Parks, and a sister, Grace Parks.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Martina and her husband, Vince, of Berlin, Ann Bailey and her husband, Ernest, of Salisbury and Lisa Martin and her husband, John, of Salisbury; sister, Irene Hillman of Parksley; grandchildren, Doug Andrews (Sandy) of Newark, Md., David Andrews (Tabi) of Salisbury, Bryan Townsend (Kathleen) of Salisbury, Scott Patton (Nicole) of Los Angeles, Ryan Patton of Salisbury, Johnny Martin of Salisbury, Melissa Calloway (Steven) of Charlotte, N.C., Leeann Townsend of Wilmington, N.C., and Lauren Tinnelly (Sean) of Chestnut Hill, Pa.; 22 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Peggy Sheeran and Billye Sarbanes (Tony), all of Salisbury; nephew, Robert Parks of Salisbury; stepgrandchildren, Julie Johnson (Quinn) of Middletown, Del., Kristen Flanagan (Newman) of Boston, Hannah Kennedy of Laurel, Del., Tony Martina (Cassie) of Middletown and Aaron Bailey of Glendale, Ariz.; special friend, Edwin Scott of Fruitland and extended family, Sonny and Sue Andrews of Salisbury.
The family would like to thank Lakeside Assisted Living and Angels Network for the wonderful and compassionate care he received.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Revs. William Kniceley and Ernest Bailey will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
