Andrew L. Onizuk

Andrew Luke Onizuk, Sr., 91, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2013. Andy was born in Elkton, Maryland, the son of the late Andrew and Nellie Onizuk. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother. Having served in the Pacific theatre in World War II, Andy was awarded several decorations including the Purple Heart. Upon his return home, he was a miller for Burlington in Elkton, MD, and worked for the Schmidt Baking Company in Wilmington, DE, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and working around the home.

Andy is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth; his sons, Andrew Luke Jr. and Edward Charles (Robin); daughter, Jean Marie (Michael); his sisters, Mary Holmes and Anna Wilmer; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alexander, Bernard, John, Joseph, and Samuel; and sisters, Genevieve, Hedwig, Leonora, and Mary.

A viewing will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, March 18 at from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Tuesday, March 19 at 10:30 am. Interment will be private at a later date.
